Journalists Trained to Improve Reporting on SRH and HIV Self-Care

On 20 August 2024, Children’s Dignity Forum (CDF) hosted a one-day training at Blue Sky Hotel, Tarime, for 25 journalists (13 women, 12 men) from various media platforms. The session aimed to strengthen accurate and ethical reporting on Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) and HIV self-care services, with a focus on adolescents and young people.

Key topics included the media’s role in promoting SRHR, youth reproductive health, and strategies to address harmful practices such as child marriage and female genital mutilation (FGM). Mara Region Information Officer Reinfrida Ngatunga emphasized the media’s responsibility in raising awareness and combating stigma, while Leah Daniel, Mara Region Maternal and Child Health Coordinator, highlighted sexual and reproductive health as a universal human right.

Journalists developed work plans to produce educational content, promote male involvement in health decisions, and advocate for policy reforms to improve youth access to SRHR and HIV services. Peer educator Cleonel Mwengendao reflected, “It is now time for the media to play a transformative role.”
