Girls’ Empowerment Learning Visit in Tarime

CDF conducted a girls’ empowerment learning visit in Mbogi and Binagi Wards, Tarime District, Mara Region, engaging 20 out-of-school girls in dialogue on child marriage, gender-based violence, and female genital mutilation (FGM).

The girls openly discussed the persistence of harmful practices in their communities, including FGM and the social norm of Nyumba Ntobu. They highlighted the importance of sustained awareness, economic empowerment, and youth-friendly platforms, such as sports and community bonanzas, for learning and engagement.

The visit also included dialogue with community members and a former FGM cutter who has since abandoned the practice and now advocates against it. Her personal journey offered a powerful example of community-led change and the possibility of transformation through sustained engagement.

These activities strengthened girls’ confidence, awareness, and leadership while reinforcing CDF’s commitment to ensuring that girls’ voices lead efforts to challenge harmful social norms and promote dignity and rights.
