Children’s Dignity Forum (CDF) with Civil Society Organizations together with members of Tanzania Human Rights Defenders Coalition (THRDC), we are saddened by recent mutilation and killings done to ten children and the number is still increasing in Njombe region.

These children aged two to nine years are kidnapped and parts of their bodies like private parts (genitals), pharyngeal, ears and teeth are removed. These violence is linked to superstitions beliefs and witchcraft. According to Legal and Human Rights Centre (LHRC), 6376 incidents threatening right to life and violence against children were reported on 2018 mid-year report. We would like to remind our fellow Tanzanians to respect and protect children rights, alongside right to life which is the basic human right under article 14 of Constitution of United Republic of Tanzania of 1977. Tanzania has signed various International documents like Universal declaration of human rights (UDHR) which safeguard right to life, liberty and security of a person. Lastly, we would like to extend our sincere condolences to the parents, relatives, families, friends and the nation as a whole for the loss of our beloved children.
