Community Engagement

The Children’s Dignity Forum has been specifically been working towards engaging stakeholders, as partners, in the fight against FGM and child marriage, including government officials, community & traditional leaders, teachers, parents, guardians and other caregivers. Furthermore, the girls and young women themselves have been active participants of CDF’s capacity development and empowerment exercises through educational trainings on FGM, workshops, photography & video skills and other awareness raising campaigns that address the issues of FGM and early child marriage in their community at large.

This has resulted in several long-term achievements, as well as over 1,967 girls being saved from FGM, helped increase the number of girls who have escaped from FGM by seeking refuge at the CDF supported Masange Centre, has increased reports of domestic violence done to girls through the introduction of the Police Gender and Child Desk and has led to several newly created girls clubs.

CDFs’ work in the area of sexual reproductive health and rights, as well legal and paralegal services, has increased the number of girls that now can also access their SRH rights at hospitals. Additionally, community engagement has gained substantial media coverage throughout Tanzania with three TV and 4 Radio programs being aired to date with the specific focus of sensitization of FGM.
